The aim of Matera Trip is to offer Erasmus students a concrete opportunity to discover the area, while creating a strong sense of community among the different ESN sections. Through a guided tour of the city and afternoon socialising, the initiative aims to promote cultural integration, stimulate new friendships and provide participants with a shared experience that combines discovery, fun and belonging. In this way, the Matera Trip becomes not only a visit to a city that symbolises Italian culture, but also a real moment of connection between young people from all over Europe.
On 19 October, the Matera Trip took place once again, now a well-established tradition within the activities of ESN's Coordinamento delle Due Sicilie. This year, the initiative attracted a surprising number of participants: more than 500 Erasmus students from the 13 ESN sections of the coordination, all gathered to enjoy a special day together in the city of the Sassi. The morning was dedicated to discovering Matera. The students strolled through its most evocative streets, visiting historical and panoramic sights that make this UNESCO World Heritage city unique. For many of them, it was their first time in Matera, and their enthusiasm for discovering one of Italy's most iconic places was palpable. In the afternoon, after the tour, the group gathered at Matera Castle for a great moment of sharing. Through dancing, games, music and group activities, the students had the opportunity to get to know each other better, make new friends and fully experience the international atmosphere that characterises ESN events. The Matera Trip proved to be not only a cultural visit, but also a collective experience of encounters, discoveries and fun, bringing together hundreds of young people from all over Europe for a single unforgettable day.
