Goal of the Activity

Promote Awareness of Gender Equality: The project aims to deepen participants’ understanding of critical topics such as gender stereotypes, microaggressions, inclusive communication, and gender mainstreaming. By addressing these topics, the project fosters a culture of equality and inclusivity among university students and high school pupils.

Empower University Students: Through interactive workshops and skill-building sessions, the project equips participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to become advocates for gender equality. The camp provides practical training on workshop facilitation and outreach development, enabling students to confidently deliver impactful sessions in high schools.

Reach and Educate High School Pupils: By involving high school pupils (ages 15–18, aim: reaching more than 100 pupils) in interactive workshops, the project introduces them to concepts of gender equality and inclusivity, encouraging critical thinking and a shift in attitudes. These pupils are empowered to further spread their knowledge within their peer groups, creating a ripple effect of awareness.

Ensure Inclusive Reach: The project specifically targets not only urban high schools but also those in rural and countryside areas, such as Alytus. This approach bridges the gap in access to gender education and ensures that information about equality and inclusivity reaches diverse communities.

Facilitate Intercultural and Intergenerational Learning: By bringing together local and international university students, the project fosters dialogue and collaboration across cultures. This exchange enriches participants’ perspectives and encourages them to apply these learnings in their interactions with younger generations during the school outreach phase.

Promote Sustainable and Inclusive Practices: The camp phase strictly adheres to ESN guidelines on sustainability and inclusivity, incorporating waste reduction practices, vegan meals, and fully accessible venues. This ensures that the project models both social and environmental responsibility.

Contribute to Long-Term Social Change: By educating participants and pupils, the project seeks to create a lasting impact on attitudes toward gender equality. Participants and pupils alike are encouraged to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity in their communities, fostering a broader cultural shift.

Description

The Equal Voices: Gender Camp & School Action project unfolds in two dynamic phases designed to promote gender equality and inclusivity among university students and high school pupils.

Phase 1: Gender Awareness Camp

The two-day camp provides participants with an intensive learning experience, featuring diverse workshops:

Workshops:

Microaggressions: Participants explore subtle forms of discrimination and how to address them.

Healthy & Inclusive Communication: They learn skills to foster respectful and inclusive interactions.

Gender Stereotyping & Gender Shaping: The workshops delve into the impact of stereotypes on behavior and societal roles.

Brainstorming: How to Do a Good Workshop: Participants gain the tools to design and conduct engaging and impactful workshops.

School Outreach Development: Preparation begins for the outreach phase with brainstorming and planning sessions.

Presentation on Gender Statistics & Gender Mainstreaming: Participants learn about global and local gender-related data and how we might measure inequality in a sociological scientific way.

Social Program: To build a strong, collaborative community, the camp incorporates social activities such as art sessions, games, and bar evenings. These activities create opportunities for participants to bond and share intercultural experiences in a relaxed environment.

Phase 2: School Outreach

Following the camp, participants travel to high schools in Kaunas and Alytus, where they lead workshops with pupils aged 15–18. They share the knowledge and skills acquired during the camp, focusing on topics like gender equality, breaking stereotypes, and fostering inclusive communication.

--> Supervision and Support: Participants are supported by ESN project organizers throughout the outreach phase. The team assists with workshop preparation, provides all necessary materials, and ensures participants feel confident in delivering their sessions.

Impact: By engaging pupils in both urban and rural areas, including Kaunas and Alytus, the project extends its reach to diverse communities. This ensures that the values of gender equality and inclusivity are accessible to all, fostering a ripple effect of awareness and understanding.

Certification:

Participants who complete both phases of the project receive certificates of participation, recognizing their role in promoting gender awareness and inclusivity.
