The objective of this event, "Mandorlo in fiore," is to promote and raise awareness about the popular festival of Agrigento. It aims to highlight the cultural and traditional significance of the festival, as well as foster cultural dialogue and exchange among folk groups from different parts of the world. Additionally, the event aims to convey a message of peace and unity through the participation of diverse populations and the promotion of peace messages.
ESN goes to Mandorlo in Fiore!
Every year, in March, the city of Agrigento is filled with colours, music, dances and typical local (but also multi-ethnic) flavours during an extraordinarily beautiful event: the Almond Blossom Festival!
The aim of the festival is precisely to celebrate the anticipation of spring with the blossoming of the almond trees, a symbol of the return to life after the long lethargy caused by winter.
For this reason, numerous folk groups arrive in Agrigento from all over the world (guess what? Probably your country of origin could be there!) to take part at the festival, and compete in traditional dance competitions. Exhibitions, concerts, cooking shows, parades, marches, as well as traditional Sicilian folk dancers…
During the parade, participants wear traditional clothes and carry almond blossoms as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
We will leave around 9. a.m. and arrive at 11.a.m . We’ll have the opportunity to visit the city center and join the parades.
Feel free to bring your own food and snacks, or simply try something new in Agrigento and taste the typical sweet and savory dishes!
In the afternoon there will be time to chill by having an aperitif in the amazing Via Atenea and enjoying musical performances. We will be back in Palermo in the evening.
