Goal of the Activity

The fact that Sakarya is an earthquake-prone region further emphasizes the importance of AFAD training. This training aims to comprehensively teach students the appropriate behaviors and necessary precautions to take during natural disasters. By increasing awareness of emergency situations and strengthening preparedness, it ensures that participants understand how to respond effectively in the event of a disaster. This process aims to help students manage their stress and anxiety related to earthquakes and other natural disasters. Following the training, a visit to the Sakarya Earthquake Museum provided participants with in-depth information about the devastating 1999 Marmara earthquake, allowing them to grasp the impacts of this catastrophe. Thus, the goal is to cultivate a more conscious and prepared generation at both individual and societal levels in the face of potential disasters.

Description

This event offers significant opportunities for both Erasmus students and local students. Firstly, the training provided on natural disasters not only teaches participants how to act during crises but also facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experiences among students from different cultures. This interaction allows students to understand each other's perspectives and gain insights into disaster management within various cultural contexts.

For Erasmus students, participating in such events while studying in a new country provides a chance to build stronger connections with the local community and better understand its dynamics and cultural characteristics. Additionally, working together on universal issues like natural disasters reinforces a sense of solidarity and unity, which is an important step toward creating an international community.

For local students, this event helps them gain a deeper understanding of the risks in their own region and the processes involved in disaster management. Learning about historical events, such as the 1999 Marmara earthquake, through training and museum visits equips them to be more aware and prepared for potential disasters. Moreover, these types of events contribute to increasing local students' social responsibility awareness, fostering community solidarity and environmental consciousness.

In conclusion, this event holds great importance for both Erasmus students and local students in terms of developing preparedness and awareness regarding natural disasters, facilitating cultural interaction, and strengthening community solidarity.
