The main goal of this activiy was to raise awareness related to the social problem of gender violence and to inform about the 25th November, creating a debate to discuss about gender issues in an intercultural environment.
November 25 is celebrated around the world as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a very important date to raise awareness against the human rights violations suffered by so many women in the world. It is estimated that, worldwide, one in three women has suffered physical or sexual violence, mainly from a partner.
In this workshop we explained the historical event that led to the creation of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the theory of the cycle of violence, we talked about national and global figures of violence against women, as well as signs that help identify abuse. Finally, we talked about a book that reviews the history of violence against women in Europe and America; Caliban and the Witch, by Silvia Federici.
After this we established a debate where we could share our opinions about the new generations and the issue of gender violence, the education in values that is currently being given to young people and that favors the elimination of violence and some ideas and resources that can help to raise awareness on this issue.
