Meet amazing people (=cheerful + joyful + brave + sparkling + exuberant), enjoy the good weather, the beautiful park, have fun playing several games, doing sports and meanwhile, raise student awareness of sustainable lifestyle, both from:
- 1. Food standpoint, through lower meat consumption, (we provided vegan and vegetarian options)
- 2. NO waste standpoint, using reusable dishware and getting vegetebles and fruit from an association that recover food before it is thrown away by the merchants.
To celebrate its 10 years ESN Unicatt decided to organize a Welcome BBQ. However, it opted not to carry out the usual barbecue where you eat a lot of meat, but with the same event wanted to raise awareness among volunteers and international students to a responsible consumption of meat and the use of reusable tableware to disposable plastic. In order to do this, it first formed an OC divided into the following Working Groups: food, communication, environmental sustainability, games, logistic.
To raise awareness of responsible meat consumption, in addition to regular burgers, we decided to offer vegetable burgers. The vegetables we offered were collected thanks to the collaboration with an association in Milan (RECUP) that every weekend collects unsold food from neighborhood markets. This option allowed us to have a wide variety of vegetables and fruits and to contribute to Zero Waste. We have also contacted another Association that offers hard plastic and reusable tableware for parties, this choice has allowed us to minimize disposable plastic. Then we played volleyball, water games and other team building activities.
