The main goal was to help our Erasmus students to explore Taksim and relevant historical places, museum etc. within the district. Thus we wanted to make a little game out of it where we gave them little hints about their next destination. With this event, we wanted to break down the cultural barriers between our students and us as well as the local community. Taksim is an area which is rich in cultures, so it was the best place that this activity could take place. During the event, we also wanted to get our students a little bit active as most of our events are require less mobility, this one was the one where we walked the whole day.
Before the event, we made an agenda for which places we plan to show the students and formed the groups, so that it would be easier on the day of the event. The event started with all of us gathering in Karaköy Pier, after that everyone was divided into groups of 5-6 people with 1-2 ESNer as a guide and WhatsApp groups were formed for each team for ESNers to send the hints that will take them to their next destination and to send pictures once they arrive to the said location as a proof that they solved the question/hint. In total, we had 4 groups, two of the groups started from AKM (Atatürk Culture Center) while the other two started from Karaköy. From there on, we visited Camondo Stairs, AKM, Tünel (Karaköy- Beyoğlu) metro station, Galata Tower, Casa Botter, St. Anthony Church, Galatasaray Highschool, Flower Passage, Atlas Cinemas, Pera Palace Hotel etc.
Basically we did a little tour of al of the historical and cultural places in Taksim/ İstanbul. While we went to those places, we gave little information about the place and a fun fact as all of the places have significant historical facts to them. After the event finished, we gave the students postcards which we wrote little facts about Türkiye like Sertab Erener winning Eurovision or Turkey being a bridge between Europe and Asia etc.
