The aim of the online workshop was to teach neurotypical people about possible support measures for autistic people, as well as to generate a better understanding of the autistic spectrum.
Experts from the Hannover Center for Autism Competence were engaged for the workshop. The workshop leaders are also neurodivergent, which makes the workshop particularly valuable. Statistically, one in 36 people is on the autistic spectrum; at technical universities such as TU Braunschweig, the number is significantly higher due to special interests. We want to make everyday life easier for these people by enabling their fellow students to learn about the stresses and strains of everyday (university) life for those affected. Due to bullying and misunderstandings, people with autism are much more likely to suffer from depression.
