To promote inclusion and cultural awareness by introducing participants to the fundamentals of sign language, encouraging empathy, and showing how communication can go beyond spoken words.
The Sign Language Workshop was designed as an interactive and awareness-focused event where participants explored the basics of sign language and discovered the beauty of silent communication. A Turkish sign language expert led the session, offering valuable insight into the structure and expression of sign language. To ensure accessibility for all, the workshop was simultaneously translated into English, allowing Erasmus students to fully engage and learn. Throughout the activity, students practiced common signs and phrases, learning how to greet, express emotions, and interact respectfully with individuals from the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. More than just a learning experience, it became a heartfelt moment of connection and empathy reminding everyone that communication is universal, even without words.
The workshop left a lasting impression, as many participants continued to use the signs they learned, turning the experience into a shared memory that strengthened intercultural bonds and awareness within the participants. #ErasmusDays
