Gender swap party with cross dressing: The cross dressing should achieve two effects: The dressing person will grapple with the topic of gender stereotypes and what society expects. This apparently fun activity should be the first contact with the underlaying topics. At the Party the mix of dresses might raise the questions for not-cross-dressed people, what the social norms and expectations are.
activities and methods: Most of the participants were cross-dressed for the party. We had interesting conversations about gender stereotypes and clothing. Organisers provided an "experiences flipchart sheet" where everyone could write about what they learnt/found interesting about the gender swap. In addition to the responsible partying, organisers provided multiple games for participants.
promotion and outreach: we advertised the event on our website (tumi.esn.world), in cooperation with the Global & Alumni Office of the university, it was advertised in their newsletter for internationals, we put up physical posters on campus and promoted the event on our section's Instagram page which was also shared by the venue.
impact & outreach: unfortunately, fewer people showed up than we expected which can be due to the venue being far from the city centre and a gender swap party being an unfamiliar concept to most. However, the participants who attended gave very positive feedback about the event and enjoyed experimenting with other genders' clothing. We believe that the event has started important conversations and discoveries among the participants and their friends during and after the event.
