Discovering the beauty of our southern region.
The trip to Lecce and Otranto was an extraordinary opportunity for the international students to explore the charms of Salento, a land rich in history, culture and breathtaking views. Our adventure began with the discovery of Otranto, a true jewel of southern Apulia, famous for its privileged position overlooking a crystal-clear sea. Wandering through its narrow streets laden with history, participants were able to admire the impressive Aragonese Castle, the splendid cathedral with its famous floor mosaic, and breathe in the unique atmosphere of this city, the easternmost point of Italy.
Next, we reached the Bauxite Quarry, a natural lake of intense colours, where the red of the earth blends with the green of the lush vegetation, creating a scenery that looks like something out of a painting. This evocative place, where flora and fauna coexist in perfect balance, left everyone speechless, providing moments of pure wonder and indelible memories.
Our journey then continued towards the majestic Faraglioni di Sant'Andrea, imposing rock formations emerging from the turquoise waters, offering a natural spectacle of rare beauty. Here, the wind and the sea have shaped over time an extraordinary landscape that has captivated every visitor.
The last stop of the day took us to Lecce, the pearl of southern Baroque, a city that enchants with its refined architecture and timeless charm. Between majestic churches, such as the Basilica of Santa Croce, elegant noble palaces and the Roman amphitheatre, the students were able to immerse themselves in centuries of history and culture, understanding why Lecce is often referred to as the ‘Florence of the South’.
Besides being a journey through the natural and artistic wonders of Salento, this experience was a unique opportunity for the students to experience moments of beauty, emotion and discovery, making their stay in Italy even more special.
