Description

The Office of Physical Education of the University of Thessaly in Larissa (Gaiopolis) in the context of sports and cultural activities, organizes for all students of the University of Thessaly, one-day training exercise in nature (rafting in Arachthos) Oracle of Dodoni or in the city of Ioannina on November 6, 2021.

The excursions have educational, recreational, athletic, cultural and social character.

Departure in the morning at 06:00 from the Jewish Square for students staying in the center and 6:15 from the main entrance of the University of Thessaly in Larissa (Gaiopolis Complex) for Erasmus students & students staying at the Home to Arachthos river.

Upon arrival we will procure the necessary equipment (uniform, neopren shoes, raincoat, life jacket, helmet and paddle), which we will wear. After getting dressed, we are transported to the beginning of the descent. There is a briefing of the process that will follow. The descent begins and lasts about 3 hours. It is a route of 9.5 km and has turns with interesting passages of 2nd and 3rd degree. An easy route ideal for beginners. However, the route has continuous ripples, sharp turns and 2nd - 3rd degree passages. It starts from the Politsa Bridge in Ampelochori and ends at the Plaka bridge, crossing the most beautiful part of the river. In the middle of the route stop for swimming under the waterfall of Klifki. The entrance to the narrow gorge of Arachthos is imposing with vertical slopes of 700m. Along the way we meet springs gushing from crevices in the rocks, waterfalls running from above into the river and rare species of birds nesting in the distant rocks of the gorge. At the exit of the gorge dominates the highest single-arched bridge in Greece, the bridge of Plaka which after the collapse of the overflow of the river was restored by a team of NTUA. Then we will dine in a traditional tavern, with traditional Epirus food.

What you need to have with you: Small towel - Swimsuit or second change of underwear. Plastic bag for wet clothes. Personal medications, if one is taking any medication. Glasses rope for those who wear glasses.

Participation: 35 euros per person

Included: Transportation by bus to Ioannina (Arachthos), experienced guide throughout the training, local travel (from the base to the river and return), complete rafting equipment (boat, life buoys, oars, helmets, uniforms, etc.).
