Goal of the Activity

To promote cultural integration among international students by introducing them to one of Cantabria’s most iconic traditional festivals, combining local heritage, gastronomy, and group interaction.

Description

We met with the international students at 10:15 AM to take the bus, which finally departed at 10:30 AM.
We arrived at the El Coterón distillery at 12:30 PM, where we received a detailed explanation of the orujo production process and had the chance to taste several varieties.

At 1:45 PM, we moved to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, where we learned about the site’s history and the relic cross, while also enjoying the surrounding views.

At 2:45 PM, the bus transported half of the group to Potes, while the other half completed a short hiking route towards the town.
Once in Potes, the international students had free time to enjoy the parades, explore the streets, have a drink, and experience the festive atmosphere.

We met again at 9:00 PM to continue celebrating the Orujo Festival with a traditional open-air party (verbena), including a concert by a Spanish music band.
At 11:30 PM, once the celebration had ended, we took the bus back and arrived in Santander around two hours later.
