Violence against women is one of the most sobering issues nations around the world are still facing. As such, Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Constanta took upon itself to shed more light on this subject during ESN Social Inclusion Days by hosting a thought-provoking online event on November 25th - the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
More precisely, we started by watching the 1-time Oscar-winning and 140-time award-nominated film "Room", a drama centered around a woman and her young child held captive for seven years in an enclosed space. The film masterfully portrays aspects such as domestic violence, alienation, or battling with Stockholm syndrome and constituted the perfect starting point for an open discussion we had afterward. We touched on the participants' impressions of the film, thoughts about the issues it depicts, and how they thought humanity should go about eliminating violence against women once and for all. The watch-along was organized online in a TwoSeven private room, which enabled us to synchronize our viewing experience and to react to the film in real-time via text and/or webcam.
