The goal of the activity was to provide participants with a hands-on learning experience that combines ecological education with practical skills, fostering an appreciation for sustainable practices through the creation of natural ink from wood charcoal. The activity aims to deepen participants' understanding of the interconnectedness of nature, promote responsible consumption, and inspire creativity by exploring ancient, low-impact methods of production within an interactive and educational setting.
The activity took place at Radici - Piccolo Museo della Natura, a unique cultural center dedicated to ecological education and the intrinsic poetry of nature. Participants were welcomed with an interactive ecology-based game, followed by a guided tour of the museum's exhibits. These exhibits, creatively displayed inside drawers in a space that once housed a stationary shop, provided a blend of scientific insights and poetic narratives about the natural world.
After exploring the museum, the group engaged in the main workshop, titled "From Charcoal to Ink." In this hands-on session, participants learned how to create black ink using natural materials, including wood charcoal, water, resin, and charcoal pigment. The process, rooted in ancient techniques, offered a sustainable and creative approach to making ink. Participants experimented with the materials, gaining practical knowledge and a deeper appreciation for eco-friendly methods.
The event successfully combined education, creativity, and sustainability, leaving participants with newfound skills and a stronger connection to nature's resources.
