Discovering the territory and culture of Salento.
The trip to Lecce and Otranto offered the international students a unique opportunity to discover the wonders of Salento, a land rich in history, culture and breathtaking landscapes. Our journey began with a visit to Otranto, the jewel of southern Apulia and a symbol of beauty and charm due to its privileged position overlooking crystal-clear waters. Strolling through its narrow streets steeped in history, participants were able to admire the magnificent Aragonese castle, the cathedral with its famous floor mosaic, and be enchanted by the unique atmosphere of this city, the easternmost point of Italy.
The next stop took us to the Cava di Bauxite, a natural lake of vibrant hues, where the red of the earth mixes with the green of the lush vegetation, creating a natural picture that seems to be painted. This enchanting corner, where flora and fauna coexist in perfect harmony, left everyone breathless, providing moments of pure wonder and indelible memories.
We then continued on to the majestic Faraglioni di Sant'Andrea, spectacular rock formations rising from the turquoise waters, creating a picture postcard panorama. Here, the sea and the wind have sculpted over time a unique and extraordinary landscape that fascinated everyone present.
Finally, we concluded our trip in the beautiful city of Lecce, the capital of southern Baroque, an authentic open-air museum. Among sumptuous churches, such as the Basilica of Santa Croce, noble palaces and the Roman amphitheatre, our students were able to immerse themselves in centuries of history and culture, admiring the refined architecture and timeless elegance of this city, also known as the ‘Florence of the South’.
This trip was not only an immersion in the natural and artistic wonders of Salento, but also an opportunity for the students to live an authentic experience of beauty, emotion and discovery.
