Ready to explore Greece with ESN AUA Athens?
Join us for a memorable day trip to Epidaurus, a gem just a stone's throw away from Athens! Known for its ancient history, Epidaurus remains vibrant today, hosting numerous performances every year. Discover the ancient beauty of Greece and create amazing memories with fellow Erasmus students and ESN volunteers.
Attractions of Epidaurus:
Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus: The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is located in the Greek city of Epidaurus, on the western side of Cynortion Mountain, near modern Lygourio. Constructed in the late 4th century BC, it is considered the most perfect ancient Greek theatre in terms of acoustics and aesthetics.
Sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus: Epidaurus is considered by many to be the birthplace of modern medicine. It began as a sanctuary dedicated to the god of medicine, Asclepius. For travelers, curious about the roots of European culture, a visit here provides insight into an early approach to medicine and a fascinating view into the healing cults of Ancient Greece.
Ancient Epidaurus: During the Mycenean period Epidavros was a large kingdom with a population of 80.000. Now it is a fishing village, with a population of 2000. In the spring and autumn the village is filled with the scent of orange blossom, so you will have the chance to take amazing pictures, combining the nature and the history.
