The goal of the event was to promote cultural awareness of the city and its most valuable artistic heritages. The second objective is the intercultural exchange of opinions and knowledge among international students as well as an opportunity to spend a sunny Sunday together by fostering interaction among Erasmus students. This event was the first of a series of “cultural first Sundays” gone on throughout the year by taking advantage of the MIC-promoted initiative of free first Sundays at museums each month we made the initiative completely free.
The day was held in a lighthearted and carefree atmosphere. Taking advantage of the sunny spring weather, we proceeded as usual to an initial walk at the historic second-hand market in Piazza Marina, location of the first visiti: Palazzo Chiaramonte Steri architectural monument symbolic of Sicily's complex history, from medieval splendor to the repression of the Inquisition to the island's cultural and academic renaissance. Its transformation into a university campus and museum testifies to its continuing role as a center of knowledge and culture.
A visit to the Chiaramonte Steri Palace provided a journey through time, exploring the various layers of Sicilian history through its architecture and collections.
Later we went to the Gallery of Modern Art one of the city's leading cultural institutions and home to a vast collection of artworks covering a wide time span from the late 18th century to the first half of the 20th century.
The visit ended with a social aperitif in Piazza Sant'Anna, right in the historic center in order to exchange views about the day spent
