Our objective was to bring Spanish traditional gastronomy closer to the international students, specially now that enjoying food physically all together can be risky. Therefore, we opted for an online class/workshop that would allow everyone to both taste a typical Spanish treat while sharing the experience with other people that were preparing the recipe at the same time. It was an activity that contributed to spreading our culture and traditions among the Erasmus students, as well as giving them the chance to modify the recipe and exchange their gastronomical culture with the rest of the attendees.
The activity was a "torrijas" online cooking class. It's a very typical sweet dessert that is traditionally prepared during Easter by Spanish grandmothers and enjoyed with family. The workshop was guided by two volunteers. One of them prepared a traditional version and the other one a vegan alternative to ensure that the activity was as inclusive as possible. They both prepared the recipe live so the international students could follow it step-by-step and ask any questions in real time. At the end, we tried the sweets all together and the attendees shared their opinions and talked about their own gastronomy in their countries.
