CAREoke had two main goals: the first was to promote inclusion of Ukrainian refugees which are currently located in Zagreb and raise awareness about their situation; the second was to raise funds through donations by karaoke attendees. Together, the overarching goal was to both educate and have fun at the same time.
The event was a karaoke party during which we highlighted the humanitarian note of the party by cooperating with a local organisation called "Istra pomaže" ("Istria helps") which has an action called "Zajedno smo jači - za Ukrajinu" ("Together we are stronger - for Ukraine"). The purpose of this action is to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees which were dislocated due to the war. Istria helps' volunteers were present at CAREoke together with a number of refugees. They had their own stand which included handmade dolls, sweets, and similar traditional Ukrainian objects which karaoke participants could buy. At the stand, they also talked about the current situation and raised awareness about the lives of refugees. The event was extrordinarily well-recieved by attendees - around 150 people were present, and we collected 5000 kunas! By doing this, we demonstrated that it is possible to connect something as serious as war with something fun and wholesome (karaoke), ad that educating people and partying responsibly can go hand in hand.
