Our goal was to show our students one of the most historically important neighbourhoods in Istanbul, the old town while giving them a chance at tasting some of the culturally significant Turkish foods, walking and learning all about Türkiye's past and its landmarks. We invited ESN Lecce to join us as we embarked on this culinary journey from Lecce to implement and explore ESN's force of bringing people together from all over the world, fostering intercultural dialogues and friendships that make the Erasmus experience even more special.
Bite Istanbul is one of ESN Existanbul's signature events where we choose a neighbourhood every month/2 months to show our students while tasting various street foods/renowned foods in those neighbourhoods as we walk. We offer our students a literal "Bite" of Istanbul through the food and the tour of beautiful parts of the city.
We met up with our Erasmus students at a designated spot in Old Town, meanwhile ESN Lecce in Italy met up with their students at their own spots. We started the event at the same time, walking all over the ancient town of Istanbul as ESN Lecce walked in the beautiful streets of Lecce. We made a a couple of stops in food places we chose to let our Erasmus students explore and taste the rich food culture of Türkiye, as our partners did the same in Italy. We engaged through our social media accounts, sharing pictures and tagging each other at these stops. We finished our food tour on a sweet note with some dessert, conversing about Istanbul's history.
Our event concluded as a day packed with information, good company and delicious food.
ESN brought us and our Erasmus students together even though we were in different parts of the world and offered us an unforgettable experience through friendship and teamwork it cultivated.
