The aim is to raise awareness of the fact that many women are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence and to stress the seriousness of this issue worldwide.
In 1999, November 25th was designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This date was chosen in memory of the three Mirabal sisters who, while visiting their husbands in prison, were blocked on the road by the officers of the Military Intelligence Service of the Dominican Republic and then raped, tortured and killed in 1960.
During lockdown, the percentage of feminicides has increased by 5%. This means that every two days a woman has been killed. Violence against women must be condemned and stopped. Every woman has the right to live her life without fear.
