The goal of this activity was to celebrate Women’s Day by hosting a cineforum focused on the film Anora, which addresses themes of prostitution, sexuality, gender-based violence, power dynamics, and the exploitation of women. The objectives of the event included:
- Celebrating Women’s Day Meaningfully: The activity provided a platform for reflection and discussion around issues of gender, sexuality;, power, exploitation, and gender-based violence, allowing participants to engage with critical social issues surrounding women’s roles in society and their vulnerabilities.
- Exploring Representation in Cinema: Anora offers a raw portrayal of the complexities of women’s experiences within oppressive structures, challenging patriarchal norms and inviting deeper conversations about the representation of women in media and the power dynamics that shape their lives.
- Fostering Dialogue and Reflection: After the screening, participants were invited to reflect on key themes such as gender-based violence, prostitution, sexuality, power dynamics, societal pressures, sorority, and the consequences of exploitation, creating an enriching space for meaningful conversation.
- Encouraging Critical Thinking: The cineforum encouraged attendees to critically analyze the role of women in society, the exploitation of marginalized groups, how gender-based violence manifests in different contexts, and how cinema can reflect or challenge societal power structures.
- Creating a Safe Space for Conversation: The event fostered inclusivity by providing a supportive environment where participants from diverse backgrounds could share their perspectives on the difficult topics addressed in the film, promoting mutual respect and understanding.
