General Goal:
- Show international students our island beautiful and protected areas to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of it
- Show our cooperation with environmental organizations
- Show our commitment in taking care of and protecting the environment
- Promote a healthy lifestyle (an active life, having quality time in a friendly social atmosphere)
More concrete goals of our event:
- Help GOB (and ONG) to keep the area in good conditions, repairing and taking care of the land.
- Cleaning the surroundings of the protected area.
- Show and share our culture
- Promote doing exercise outdoors, respecting the environment
- Show the benefits of being outside, offline, breaking the daily routine of work/study and social networks for our mental health.
It's a weekend activity. We headed from Palma to Sant Elm by public transport on Saturday morning, then we did a hike to La Trapa (1h 30 min) were we stayed until Sunday afternoon doing some volunteering.
When we arrived the main organizator form GOB (NGO) explained the characteristics of the place, as well as the functions that we would perform during the weekend. After lunch we had free time to rest until 17:00.
After the break we started with the tasks of the farm that consisted basically in the maintenance and care of the place. The tasks we carried out were especially to weed control, clear the paths, clearing trails and restore a fountain. We volunteer for two hours, until 20:30 approximately.
After dinner we made several games and dynamics, we observe the stars and the constellations, sang songs with the guitar, and talked to the local guide. All this made us able to join more as a group.
We had free time until 00:00. From this time we were silent to take advantage of the hours of rest.
On Sunday for breakfast, ESN offered a wide variety of breakfast products for the whole group, taking into account the allergies and intolerances of all. After that we restarted the volunteering tasks until lunch time, ESN provided healthy and local food.
About 15:00 we started the hike back Sant Elm where we stayed in one of the beaches until the time the bus arrived, which was around 19:30.
