Showing a suggestive place with historical and cultural value around Halloween times.
Learning about how an association restored the catacombs and the whole neighborhood, from slum-like to popular touristic area.
Description
The visit covered two catacombs, San Gaudioso and San Gennaro, and a speech about how the visit, held by association "La Paranza", was made possible by painstaking work, volunteering and education to boost employability.
The catacombs offered a suggestive atmosphere, with graves and skulls contrasting with religious imagery. We got to learn about the early years of Christianity and some traditions involving the dead that were practiced until recent times.
The visit was ended by a gift of candies and sweets, to get in Halloween mood.
