Finally, the activity went very well and the international students were very happy. The objective was to spend quality time with the people who live on the farm and learn from their work.
The treatment with the director and the workers of the farm was incredible, they welcomed us and invited us to eat; there was a very nice atmosphere. During the tour of the farm they made sure that everyone understood everything they did there, their way of recycling etc. It was very interesting and if we can we will try to repeat it another year.
The activity consists of a visit to a farm where African immigrants are welcomed. In this place the immigrants receive a small salary, bed and food while they work the land and take care of the animals, and wait to receive the papers and work with the help of volunteers who are part of the association AVSA (Valencian Association of Solidarity with Africa) and who are working there. The visit consists of showing the farm and how immigrants live and work and the realization of different workshops: Life stories (where they tell their experiences as immigrants) and Permaculture, bioconstruction and animal care (where they teach the work they do on the farm, such as construction with mud and recycled materials and care of nature and animals).
