To provide Erasmus students with an opportunity to explore Slovakia’s cultural heritage through a guided visit to Čičmany, a historic village known for its unique architecture and traditions, fostering appreciation for local culture and promoting intercultural dialogue.
We organized a trip to Čičmany, a Slovak village famed for its painted houses and cultural heritage. We began at a local museum in two cottages—one displaying regional customs, clothing, and crafts, and the other showing traditional lifestyles—while an English guide detailed the village’s history. During our visit, the village celebrated Fašiangy, a pre-Lenten festival featuring folk costumes, masks, traditional doughnuts (“šišky”), music, and dancing. After lunch with bryndzové halušky and Kofola, we toured a local educational centre introduced by Mrs. Elenka of the MOTIO Experience Centre, where Erasmus students engaged in interactive scientific experiments. The day ended with a rich mix of history, culture, and learning.
