The goal of this trip was to bring Erasmus students together through a day of shared experiences, local history, and nature, all while encouraging responsible travel and respect for the environment. The hike and barbecue gave students a chance to connect, work together, and enjoy a taste of Bulgarian culture and landscape, making it a memorable and sustainable outing for all.
ESN Plovdiv organized a day trip from Plovdiv to Asenovgrad to explore Bulgarian history and nature while promoting the use of public transportation. The group traveled by bus in the morning and returned by train in the evening. Upon arrival in Asenovgrad, we stopped at a local supermarket, where students could buy food and drinks. One of the coordinators helped carry the heavier items to Asen's Fortress, while the Erasmus students enjoyed a light hike up to the site.
At the fortress, students had a guided tour to learn about its history and some of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage. Afterward, we walked together to a nearby clearing in the mountains, where we set up a barbecue. Erasmus students helped make the fire, cook, dance, and take photos of the beautiful surroundings. Before leaving, we collected all our trash to keep the area clean.
