The goal of the activity was to create an engaging and meaningful experience that combined environmental action with the enjoyment of nature. Walking around Eymir Lake provided participants with a peaceful escape into its scenic beauty, fresh air, and the calming sounds of water and wildlife. This event not only encouraged visitors to appreciate the natural surroundings but also inspired them to take an active role in preserving it. By integrating trekking, trash collection, and moments of reflection, the activity aimed to foster a deeper connection to nature, promote sustainability, and emphasize the importance of collective responsibility for our environment.
Eymir Lake, a tranquil retreat near Ankara known for its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife, served as the perfect setting for our trekking and trash collection event with Erasmus students. This event brought together 20 participants for a day of environmental action and outdoor fun, combining nature appreciation with sustainability efforts.
The day began with a trek along the lakeside, offering participants a chance to enjoy the serene surroundings, play mini-games along the way, and even witness the lake’s beauty from above as a drone captured breathtaking aerial views. Midway through the trek, hunger struck, and the group found a cozy lakeside spot to enjoy delicious Turkish food.
While the original plan was to begin with trekking followed by trash collection, some participants opted to start cleaning up earlier, collecting litter from the forest and lakeside. The trekking group completed their journey with a friendly running challenge before joining in the cleanup efforts. Together, the volunteers collected an impressive 117 kg of trash, restoring the lake’s natural beauty and making a tangible impact on the environment.
The day concluded with a relaxed gathering, where participants reflected on their efforts, discussed sustainability, and shared ideas for a cleaner future. This event not only emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility but also fostered community bonds, creating lasting memories and inspiring participants to continue their commitment to protecting nature.
