Goal of the Activity

The ESN Riga Traffic Light Party, hosted on November 10th, aimed to offer Erasmus and international students in Riga an engaging and innovative social platform. By encouraging attendees to dress according to their relationship status – green for single, yellow for 'it's complicated', and red for taken or just there for fun – the event sought to facilitate easier social interactions and break down barriers among students. The goal was to create a fun, inclusive environment where students could mingle, make new friends, and enjoy a memorable evening. The free entry, location at KOYA, and discounts available with the ESNcard were additional perks designed to make the event accessible and appealing to a wide student audience. Ultimately, this event aimed to foster a sense of community and belonging among the international student population in Riga, enhancing their social experience during their semester abroad

Description

The ESN Riga Traffic Light Party, held on November 10th at KOYA, was a standout event for Erasmus and international students. Alongside the unique dress code indicating relationship status – green for singles, yellow for 'it's complicated', and red for taken or just for fun – the addition of colorful bracelets added an extra layer of interaction and fun.

As students arrived, dressed vibrantly between 23:30 and 01:00, they were welcomed with the choice to participate more actively in the social dynamics of the evening. Those interested, particularly the green and yellow ones, were given three sticker hearts upon entry. These hearts served as a novel and effective conversation starter, allowing students to express their interest or sympathy towards others by sticking a heart on someone they admired or wanted to befriend.

This interactive element was a resounding success. It not only broke the ice but also facilitated the formation of new connections. The use of sticker hearts in conjunction with the dress code and bracelets created a playful, engaging atmosphere, encouraging students to mingle more openly and confidently.

The party was not just about fun and dancing; it played a significant role in building new relationships and fostering friendships. Several students found romantic connections, while many others formed new friendships, underlining the inclusive and community-oriented spirit of the international student body in Riga. The evening was a testament to the innovative and inclusive approach of ESN Riga in creating memorable and meaningful experiences for international students.
