Goal of the Activity

Tandem meetings are all about meeting new people, learning new languages and experiencing other cultures. With the help of prepared cheat sheets, participants can engage in a fun and accessible language exchange. Now matter the level – beginner, fluent, or in-between – this event aims to bring everyone together.

Description

“Tandem” is a meeting hosted once a month. Before the event, participants fill out the information in a dedicated app called Papaya - including languages they speak and those they’d like to learn. This time, however, due to a smaller turnout, the organizers suggested a change: instead of dividing into smaller groups, everyone gathered around a single table filled with soft drinks, homemade brownies, and plenty of laughter.

As a warm up, participants played a game of StopotS (also known as Categories, or in Polish, Państwa-Miasta), in which during each round participants had to come up with words from given categories, starting from drawn letter. This icebreaker provided a fun way for everyone to learn more about each other’s cultures.

After a few rounds of the game, it was time for the main event: language exchange! Using prepared cheat sheets, each participant could teach others some useful phrases from their language, including Turkish, Greek, French or Arabic. The event ended with some cute group photos and promises to meet again. Although it was the first Tandem in this format, it doesn’t have to be the last!
