Offer a service to children who otherwise couldn’t afford it and would spend their time most surely in the street, with all the dangers connected to it. On the other hand, we also offer the international students a way to gain some extra ECTS (if their sending institution recognises the volunteering activity) by issuing them a certificate. The pupils can take advantage of having native speaker teachers when doing homework, and in leisure
activities they mainly learn how to reduce waste and recycle.
We involve the international students in volunteering to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We also implicitly foster the concept of internationalisation towards both the children and their families because they learn how impactful can be a mobility experience for a community (the students offer them something that they wouldn’t otherwise have, and one day in the future their children could replicate the same experience helping others in need and learning a language acquiring soft skills at the same time). The project lasted 3 months, from mid February to mid May 2022.
