To provide Erasmus students with an engaging and educational experience by exploring Madrid’s historic Rastro market while learning about the city’s history and culture.
The activity was a guided tour through Madrid’s Rastro, beginning with a safety briefing on how to avoid pickpockets and navigate the area. Afterward, a brief history lesson was given, focusing on Madrid's evolution as a capital city, the prohibition of street vendors, and the establishment of the Rastro as a popular open-air market. The group then walked through the market, starting in the lower area and gradually making their way to the main street where most clothing and accessory stalls are located. While no purchases were made, several stops were made at popular stalls. The tour ended with a lively batucada performance, where Erasmus students danced and sang along to the rhythm of drums and guitars, followed by a social gathering at Retiro Park to reflect on the experience.
