Goal of the Activity

The cause of this event is to celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity within the international and queer community. The Rainbow Picnic aims to bring people together to socialize, express themselves, and share their cultures, while also raising awareness and support for LGBTQIA+ rights. We wanted to create a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for everyone and contribute to LGBTQIA+ visibility.

Description

We contacted the student initiative "Queer im Schloss", asking them if they were interested in a collaboration with us for an event. "Queer im Schloss" provides a community and safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender (LGBTQIA+) students & friends at the University of Mannheim and organizes social gatherings as well as networking and educational events. They accepted our request, and we organized a picnic together with them. The picnic took place on a Saturday on the riverbank and started at 3pm. We asked everyone to bring along a dish inspired by a color of the rainbow, or by their home country, to share with everyone. During the event, the participants had good conversations, ate delicious food, played games, and took part in some rounds of spikeball (sports activity).

The event was promoted via our Instagram page and in the ESN WhatsApp group.
