This online workshop was a part of Spring Social Inclusion Days 2021, an initiative that aims to advocate for inclusive mobility programmes, through activities that bring together students and members of local communities, in more than 42 countries.
According to WHO, deafness and hearing impairment have been neglected in the public health field even though they form one of the commonest disabilities and contribute significantly to the global burden of disease. By organizing a Sign Language workshop, we are hoping to sensitize and provide awareness about deaf people.
Together with Speak, ESN Coimbra organized a Portuguese Sign Language Workshop which took place in online format and exclusively in Portuguese. We invited a speaker who is trained in Portuguese Sign Language to conduct a workshop with the end-goal of learning something new: not only to learn a few signs, but also to gain awareness regarding the deaf community.
