The primary goal of the event was to create a platform for discussing feminism, gender stereotypes, and the suppression of dissent. It aimed to encourage critical thinking, empower women, and promote dialogue about the need for resistance in a patriarchal system.
The event also aimed to achieve other interconnected objectives, such as:
- Promote Critical Thinking: To challenge the societal norms that suppress dissent and discourage women from asserting themselves. The event sought to spark conversations about the systemic pressures women face and inspire attendees to question patriarchal narratives.
- Empower Women: By framing resistance and self-love as radical political acts, the event encouraged women to reclaim their agency and redefine their roles in society.
- Foster Inclusivity: To create a safe space where participants, regardless of their background, could share their experiences and perspectives openly, building a supportive community.
- Raise Awareness: To highlight the cultural and systemic barriers that perpetuate gender inequality, encouraging attendees to become more aware of these dynamics in their own lives and communities.
- Inspire Action: To motivate attendees to move beyond passive acceptance of societal norms and take steps, individually and collectively, toward meaningful change.
The event, titled “Porgi sempre l’altra guancia” ("Always Turn the Other Cheek"), was held in a cozy café in Milan. It featured Valeria Fonte, a renowed writer and activist, as the speaker, with Alice Buzio, a neurodivergent feminist activist, serving as the moderator. The discussion explored the societal pressures on women to compromise or remain passive in the face of oppression, contrasting this with the concept of resistance as a radical act of self-love and empowerment.
Participants felt deeply included in the conversation, with many actively engaging in the discussion. The inclusive and respectful environment encouraged attendees to share their own perspectives, and some even opened up about intimate stories of abuse. These heartfelt contributions added depth and authenticity to the event, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual understanding among the participants.
