Share the Italian culture through visiting one of the most beautiful city in Italy: Parma and his palio.
Visiting the charming town with a guided tour by ESN Parma and also a typical folk event called Palio di Parma with the contribution of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.
The goal of this initiative is to bring students to Parma on the weekend of the famous Palio degli Asini .The palio is a re-enactment of the ancient "Scarlet Race" dating back to medieval times.
We arrived in Parma by bus in the morning, after which students participated in a tour of the city given by ESN Parma volunteers who told history, anecdotes and trivia.
During the tour, the students visited the most characteristic places in the city such as the Palazzo della Pilotta, Teatro Regio, Ducal Park, the Cathedral and the Baptistery. After the tour, free time was given to the students to have lunch and visit the city independently, before watching the traditional Palio.
In the early afternoon, we went together to Piazza Garibaldi to watch the traditional races, parades, flag-waving performances and representations of medieval life in costume of the 'Palio degli Asini'.
After the event is over, we returned to Bologna by bus.
