The purpose of the Odunpazarı trip was to immerse Erasmus students in Turkish culture and history through exploration of local heritage sites, including the OMM Modern Museum, historical Odunpazarı houses, and Kurşunlu Mosque. The trip aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of Turkish architecture, traditions, and regional cuisine.
This event was organized to provide Erasmus students with an opportunity to learn more about Turkish culture and local life. Our trip began with a meeting at 11:00 AM, where we opted to walk instead of using public transportation. This choice allowed us to explore the area while engaging in a healthy activity.
Our first stop was the OMM Modern Museum, where students encountered various exhibitions, gaining insights into art and cultural events. We then visited the historical Odunpazarı houses. As we walked through these streets, students experienced the historical texture of the area and had the chance to shop for local souvenirs, including the unique lületası (meerschaum), with some students making purchases.
During the trip, students also had the opportunity to meet local residents, learning about their daily lives and engaging in cultural interactions. Our next destination was the Kursunlu Mosque. Here, students appreciated the intricate architecture and gained a deeper understanding of Turkish culture and history.
Additionally, they sampled local street snacks, particularly Eskisehir's famous met helvası, which was well received. This event aligned with ESN's principles of social inclusion and cultural sharing, fostering students' understanding of different cultures and enabling them to build social connections.
At the end of the day, we enjoyed Turkish coffee to unwind before heading back. This experience not only promoted physical activity but also provided a healthy and interactive way for students to engage with one another.
