The goal of the activity was to let the participants get acquainted with several strategies in negotiations on the work floor, regarding salary or other employment conditions. Furthermore, it proposed to stimulate a dialogue between international alumni from Utrecht University and international students. This way, they could converse about specific challenges or problems they encounter within the intercultural work/study environment, and exchange tips and tricks in tackling these problems.
The event was online and split up into two parts: one in which the participants learned some fundamentals of negotiation and one in which they got the opportunity to talk to international alumni from various backgrounds in a ‘speeddate’ format. This way they were able to learn new negotiating skills, while also discuss some personal experiences from international alumni that tackled some of the intercultural struggles they might be up against soon.
