The main aim of the activities is to raise awareness and build capacity within ESN Romania and its local sections regarding safety and inclusion in the Network. The specific objectives that will ensure an effective and timely implementation of the aim are:
Raise awareness amongst 60 participants about the specificities and characteristics of safety and inclusion within an NGO through a series of sessions and workshops over a duration of 2 days - This specific objective ensures that the participants are equipped with the relevant theoretical knowledge needed to better grasp the need for fostering a gender-inclusive and safe working environment, both within and outside of ESN;
Empower the local board members and volunteers of ESN Romania to implement the gathered knowledge on an administrative level, through the crafting of internal documents that provide guidelines to be followed by all members of the NO when implementing events, projects and activities, as well as in the design of the organisational culture of ESN Romania. - This objective ensures continuity and longevity of the activities carried out during the training event. The documents crafted will ensure a streamlined implementation and bettering of the safety and inclusion aspects of our local events, activities and projects, as well as our working environment;
Raise awareness amongst the international students of Romania regarding the importance and relevance of inclusion and safety in our day-to-day lives through an online promotional campaign implemented by the local sections of ESN Romania. - This objective ensures that the activities implemented and their outputs will be relevant for people outside of ESN as well. The promotional campaign will be implemented by all 14 sections of ESN Romania thus securing a wide range of external audiences to be reached over time.
The National Training Event was successfully held from the 5th to the 8th of December in Cluj-Napoca, with the participation of 51 attendees. The event also included a 4-member Content Team and 5 members of the National Board, ensuring comprehensive oversight and guidance.
The event was organized into three distinct levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and NA (National Assembly)—each led by dedicated trainers or Chairing Team members responsible for delivering tailored content:
- Beginner Track:
- Participants: 28
- Trainers: 2
- Focus Areas: ESN 101, teamwork and cooperation, and conflict management.
- Intermediate Track:
- Participants: 11
- Trainers: 2
- Focus Areas: Negotiation, leadership, and volunteer and stakeholder management.
- NA Track:
- Participants: 16
- Chairing Team Members: 3
- Focus Areas: Project and budget presentations, along with discussions on relevant organizational matters.
All tracks featured dedicated sessions addressing inclusion, safety teams, and related aspects in alignment with internal regulations, (including ESN's SSI Guidelines) tailored to their respective levels.
Participants applied the knowledge gained during the event to collaborate in mixed, small working groups on the following outcomes:
- Online Campaign: Development of a promotional campaign focusing on safety and inclusion in an NGO context.
- SSI Toolkit: Creation of an internal toolkit for events, activities and projects, based on the current SSI, including an internal checklist, planning for two SSI events, and two Training Session Outlines (TSOs) aimed at educating local volunteers.
- Internal Regulations: Analysis and recommendations for improving safety and inclusion within the organization's Code of Conduct.
While some outcomes remained unfinished due to the early departure of certain participants, all groups presented their progress during a showcase session on Sunday, prior to the event’s conclusion.
This event provided a valuable platform for learning, collaboration, and strategic planning.
