Goal of the Activity

The main objective of the ‘Napoleonica and Osmiza’ event was to show the nature area just outside the city of Trieste to Erasmus students, walking along the ‘Strada Napoleonica’ trail. To promote a moment of outdoor physical activity, a very simple walk in which everyone could participate. After the walk, we went to lunch at an osmiza, a typical Triestine agritourism, where the Erasmus students were able to taste typical, zero-km products.  Lunch at this Osmiza in the midst of the countryside allowed everyone to take their minds off city life and study and to foster a moment of conviviality among the students. In conlusion, the main objective was to spend a fun and convivial day outdoors, in nature, tasting local products and getting to know each other better.

Description

The 'Napoleonica and Osmiza' event was held on May 1st 2024.
In the morning we volunteers and Erasmus students met at Piazza Oberdan to take the bus to the beginning of the trail we were going to walk. Arriving at the Opicina Obelisk, we started the path called ‘Strada Napoleonica’, a very simple 5 km trail suitable for everyone. We covered the road in about an hour and a half, during which we could admire the city of Trieste in the distance, enjoy the natural landscape of the Carso, the sea and enjoy the sun.

At the end of the walk, we took the bus to the osmiza where we would have lunch (an osmiza is a typical Trieste-Carsic farmhouse, where volunteers and students were able to enjoy local specialities, produced at zero km). The dishes consisted of cured meats, cheeses, vegetables and savoury pies (everyone's dietary needs were respected, and traditional dishes were made for lactose intolerant, vegetarian or vegan people, according to their tastes).  At the end of lunch, a typical Karst sweet palacinka was served.

After lunch we were in the green area adjacent to the osmiza, spending some convivial moments with each other, talking and singing in the beautiful scenery of nature. The event ended at 6pm, when we took the bus back to the city.
