Goal of the Activity

The goal of the activity is to provide information to Erasmus students and ESN Ege University volunteers regarding living in a different culture and actions that can be taken in the face of challenges that may arise during the adaptation process. In this context, it aims to enable the integration of theories from the field of psychology into daily life.
Additionally, the discussion also encompassed identifying sources of stress and exploring strategies for coping with them.

Description

In this activity, facilitated by an instructor provided by TPÖÇG, an exercise was conducted for Erasmus students and ESN Ege University volunteers on the challenges that may arise in adapting to another culture. Participants attempted to place a coffee order in a different country with an unfamiliar language. Various conditions were set for baristas and customers, and each group attempted to place the same order under these conditions, but none of the groups succeeded in getting the order right. Subsequently, the impact of different indicators on the 'Six Indicators of Multicultural Competence' concerning the Coffee Order Activity was discussed.

The next topic of discussion was Stress Management, focusing on identifying the internal and external sources of stress and exploring strategies for coping with it. Finally, each participant in the group shared their most recent stressful memory with a fellow participant, and the other person was encouraged to empathize with and narrate that memory.
