The goal of our activity was to welcome our Erasmus students and to help them connect and meet face to face with their buddies as well as hear their concerns or any kind of struggle they may have had upon their arrivals to Istanbul, Türkiye. We introduced ourselves and the Erasmus Student Network, explained what we do and gave them some information about ESN overall and introduced them to the ESNcard. We also wanted to talk about sex education and protection from sexual diseases, we handed out pamphlets we had prepared that were packed with useful information on the topic as well as some free and anonymous testing places if our students were to need them. In the pamphlet, we also touched on harmful stereotypes and wrong information. We believe our efforts to show that ESN is an inclusive space for all genders, sexualities, cultures and so on were definitely met with a lot of love and trust being built between our section and Erasmus students.
We met up at Moda Park with our Erasmus students and some other Erasmus students from different sections and non section Universities, as we used our social media channels to promote our meet up event. Our volunteers and buddies met their buddies and got a chance to get to know them. We formed a circle and sat down at the beautiful Moda Park right next to the sea. Our board members walked into the circle one by one to introduce themselves and explain what they do as well as give information on ESN while our other volunteers distributed the Sex ED Pamphlets we made. We got to know our students as they got to know us and Istanbul a little better, giving them a warm welcome to start the semester.
