Goal of the Activity

The aim of Lake Doxa Day Trip was to unite individuals through a 10km hike and a lakeside BBQ. Our goal was to cultivate new friendships, facilitate cultural exchange, and forge enduring memories. The challenging yet rewarding hike near Lake Doxa provided a shared adventure, while the lakeside BBQ offered a chance to relax and connect after the journey. This event exemplified our commitment to fostering unity and camaraderie within the ESN community, combining outdoor exploration with meaningful social interactions.

Description

The trip kicked off from Athens city center by bus, with our journey taking nearly 4 hours until we reached the picturesque lake, where the hiking adventure began. For those opting out of the hike, there was the opportunity to explore the lakeside surroundings, including an old monastery and a historical church situated in the lake's center. Most participants embarked on the hike, traversing a captivating trail starting from the lake, ascending to a stunning viewpoint 500m higher, and then descending via a different path to the starting point. The moderately challenging trail spanned 3 hours and 30 minutes, breaks included. Following the hike, we gathered for a delightful meal, grilling sausages and mushrooms and preparing sandwiches for everyone. International students and ESN volunteers alike relished the lakeside view, accompanied by music. Just before sunset, we bid farewell to the enchanting setting and headed back to Athens.
