The goal of the event was to teach both international students and our volunteers how to handle an emergency situation in which someone has a sudden cardiac arrest and how to properly use an AED.
Besides the educational and social value of the event, it was also an opportunity for international students to get in touch with the Italian Red Cross which is well known and plays an important role in our community.
We attended an informative event on first aid procedures in case of sudden cardiac arrest and use of AED which was organised by the Italian Red Cross - Committee of Moncalieri Odv within the project #CuoreMatto.
International students and ESN volunteers learnt:
- What a sudden cardiac arrest is;
- Risk factors that lead to it (with a special focus on prevention);
- How to recognise early sings and symptoms of an imminent event and the importance of acting quickly;
- What the Chain of Survival is;
- What BLS (Basic Life Support) is and how to practice it;
-
What an AED is, how it works and how to use it;
At the end of the activity the participants had the possibility to practice the procedures on a mannequin.
Moreover, the Red Cross volunteers also showed us the inside of an ambulance and explained us the use of the medical equipment.
