Step into the heart of Turkish tradition with a vibrant and immersive Henna Night celebration, designed to provide Erasmus students with an unforgettable cultural experience. This event showcases the rich heritage of Turkey by introducing participants to the unique and meaningful customs of a Henna Night, a pre-wedding ceremony that symbolizes love, joy, and blessings for the bride.
The evening began with a shared dinner, setting the tone for a warm and communal atmosphere. Following the meal, participants were immersed in the tradition of “asking for the hand in marriage” through a theatrical performance. Five attendees were selected to portray family members in this staged reenactment, giving everyone a firsthand experience of this cherished Turkish custom.
The event then transitioned into a lively celebration as participants dressed in traditional bride and bridesmaid costumes and danced to Turkish folk music. As the night unfolded, attendees joined in the quintessential Henna Night ritual—forming a queue to walk around the bride while she had henna applied to her hands, symbolizing blessings and good fortune.
The celebration continued with a mix of traditional Turkish songs and upbeat Turkish pop, creating a joyous and inclusive environment. This Henna Night was more than just a cultural showcase; it was an opportunity for intercultural exchange, fostering a sense of community and leaving participants with lasting memories of Turkey’s rich traditions and vibrant spirit.
