Raise Awareness of Gender Diversity: Promote understanding of five specific gender identity labels: queer, trans, non-binary, gender-fluid, and agender.
Foster Allyship: Define allyship and encourage participants to develop and apply practical allyship behaviours in their daily lives.
This activity aligns with the Open Call and Work Plan “Inclusivity for All, Now!” by addressing gender stereotypes, promoting gender equality, and empowering young people to create inclusive environments.
On the 10th of November, international students and ESN volunteers gathered to learn about Gender Identity Label, to gain a clear understanding of the nuances of the five specified gender identity labels.
The participants also worked to understand the definition of allyship and understand its importance in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for gender minorities.
Afterwards, in smaller working groups, workshopped ideas on how to develop Allyship Behaviours on a local level. Participants discussed and identified practical allyship behaviours and considered how to support gender minorities in various settings, including ESN, social circles, and public spaces.
The content of this activity was prepared in collaboration with Clube Rainbow, a LGBTQIA+ student organisation from Braga.
From the inputs of the participants, the National Board will prepare practical Gender identity & Allyship guidelines, that are now in the consultation phase at the moment.
This activity supports ESN Portugal’s goal of empowering volunteers regarding gender diversity. By examining how allyship can be integrated into ESN’s organisational practices.
