Goal of the Activity
  • Use of second hand bikes by repairing instead of buying new
  • Promote the use of the bike as a sustainable way of moving and a daily physical activity for physical and mental well-being
  • Providing a positive economic opportunity by loaning the bike for free
  • Evaluate the success or not in order to increase the number of bikes for the next year

Description

In august 2020 we bought a bike to Neele, a German student who was on an Erasmus in Montpellier for a year. She didn't know how to get rid of her bike neither if she'll be able to sell it. ESN Montpellier bought it 50€ and repair it thanks to the grant that our local President got from a public institution and thanks to the work of the ESNer Fred that bought the tools and used his knowledge to repair it (final total cost with repairing :150€).

We post on instagram our idea "What about winning a bike for your semester abroad ?" and saw that people were interested about it ! 😀

So we post a contest to win the bike on Instagram asking international students to write in the comments how they would name this bike brought back to life and to tag 2 other international students or former international students or ESNers they know

As we were proud of this initiative at local level, Miguel our Colombian ESNer of Montpellier joined the party and put his visual and film making skills into the initiative by creating an introducing video of the bike

Eventually we got a winner of the bike, Urszula from Poland and she named the bike ... the Pink Panther ! 😀
