We wanted to bring together international students and young people with disabilities to erase borders and prejudice by having fun at playing handball in wheelchairs together. This way our students were able to experience sports under special circumstances. By doing that we wanted to show another perspective and create awareness.
We had the opportunity to do a joint wheelchair handball training with the athletes of the VSG Darmstadt 1949 sports-club. The VSG is an association in Darmstadt that specializes in sport activities for people with physical or mental disabilities or people in recovery. During the training we had the opportunity to talk to the players and to play in a wheelchair ourselves. We learned the rules of the game, practiced moving around in a wheelchair with a ball and played some matches together in mixed teams.
