The objective of this activity was to provide Erasmus students with an engaging and memorable day trip, fostering a sense of camaraderie while exploring the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Bulgaria.
ESN Plovdiv had planned a day trip to the village of Markovo, but due to a bus breakdown, the group decided to embark on Plan B: a journey to Asenovgrad by bus and train. The highlight of the day was a barbecue outing.

Journey to Asenovgrad: The group traveled to Asenovgrad by bus, enjoying the picturesque scenery along the way. Upon arrival, everyone bought food together for the barbecue adventure.

Hike to San Dimitar Chapel: After purchasing supplies, the participants embarked on a roughly one-hour hike to a scenic viewpoint near Asenovgrad, known as the Chapel of San Dimitar. Along the way, they made several stops to rest, hydrate, take photos, and explore the historical Asen's Fortress.

BBQ and Music: Upon reaching the viewpoint, despite some fatigue, the Erasmus students were captivated by the beautiful surroundings. They prepared and enjoyed a barbecue, cooking both vegetarian and meat options to cater to everyone's tastes. Music filled the air as they dined, and some even showcased their musical talents. Passersby, including locals, joined in to listen and enjoy the music.

ESN Pride: The Erasmus students enthusiastically posed for group photos with the ESN flag, demonstrating their appreciation for the organization. Individual photos with the flag were taken as well, showcasing their support for ESN's initiatives.

Environmental Responsibility: Before departing, the group made sure to clean up and collect all the trash, even taking some extra garbage bags back to the city to help maintain the area. This responsible action aligned with ESN's commitment to environmental consciousness.
This day trip was not only a delightful adventure but also aligned with ESN's values, including environmental awareness, public transportation use, promoting an active lifestyle through hiking, cultural exploration through visits to historical sites like Asen's Fortress, fostering integration among Erasmus students, and engaging with the local community through music and companionship. It was indeed a day that encapsulated the essence of ESN's mission.
